Reliability Engineer

At a glance

We are looking for a Reliability Engineer within Customer Services. Are you someone who likes to understand how digital services work end-to-end and who takes ownership of reliability and continuity? Then this might be the role for you. Within the Customer Services cluster, we work every day to deliver the best digital banking experience for our customers. We strongly believe in Design Thinking, an agile way of working, and building reliable digital services that customers can trust.

Your job

As a Reliability Engineer in our grid, you play a key role in realising ABN AMRO’s ambition of being a personal bank in a digital age. Together with your interdisciplinary team, you focus on the reliability, observability and continuity of customer-facing digital services. You operate across the full chain: from mobile applications (iOS & Android) to backend services and supporting platforms. You ensure services are not only available, but also measurable, understandable and resilient in production. You are not expected to be a hands-on developer for all components, but you do understand how code behaves in production, how systems interact, and how design and change decisions affect reliability and customer experience.

Working environment

Within Customer Services we directly contribute to the ‘personal touch’ of the bank’s ambition to become a Personal Bank in a digital age. With our grids in Customer Interaction & Conversational, Customer Insights & Hyperpersonalisation, together with Architects and our Shared Service teams, we make a real difference. As a Reliability Engineer, you work closely with backend teams, architects and stakeholders to embed reliability as a structural part of how we design, change and operate digital services.

Your profile

Must have

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end digital services, from mobile applications (iOS & Android) to backend systems
  • Ability to read and understand code and assess application behaviour in production
  • Proven experience in monitoring and observability, including defining meaningful metrics, alerts and dashboards
  • Ability to reason from customer impact and critical user journeys, not just system availability
  • Experience with failure scenarios and degraded behaviour, and understanding of reliability patterns such as retries and fallbacks
  • Strong collaboration skills and ownership mindset for availability, reliability and continuity
  • Ability to translate technical insights into clear actions and decisions for diverse stakeholders

Good to have

  • Experience with observability concepts such as metrics, logs and traces
  • Familiarity with APM and monitoring tooling (tool-agnostic; focus on concepts, not products)
  • Basic understanding of SRE / DevOps principles such as SLIs, SLOs and resilience
  • Experience in customer-facing or high-availability digital environments
  • Affinity with security, risk and control topics within IT landscapes
  • Curiosity to continuously improve reliability, monitoring quality and operational maturity

We are offering

As Reliability Engineer in our grid, you are given many opportunities. You can showcase your professional skills in a no-nonsense environment.

We also offer you:

  • Excellent salary *
  • 25 vacation days based on 40 hours (with an optional 14 days extra)
  • Personal development budget of € 1,000.00 per year (next to training to keep your knowledge and certifications up to date)
  • Benefit budget of 11% (of your salary). You can decide how you want this to be paid out. For example, as extra holiday allowances, a lease bike, or as salary
  • Banking for better days. These are days you can work on your personal development or contribute to society
  • Good set of facilities for remote working. Good to know, we have adopted a hybrid model of working with 2-5 office days
  • Solid pension plan that will set you up for the future

* You are hired in ABN AMRO-scale 9-10. Classification is based on your experience, skills and a benchmark among colleagues (equal pay).
