This is your opportunity to work with cutting‑edge data technologies, contribute to impactful data solutions, and grow in a dynamic, data‑driven environment.

Your job

  • Build, enhance, and maintain scalable data ingestion, processing, and transformation pipelines using Databricks, PySpark, Python, and SQL.
  • Support the team in developing and optimizing enterprise data platforms and metadata/governance solutions with tools like Informatica and Azure Purview.

Your working environment

The Data Management Engineering department is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the bank’s end‑to‑end data management solutions. Our mission is to enable data democratization, high-quality data governance, and reliable data availability across the entire organization.

As a Data Engineer, you will work within a DevOps team of 5–8 professionals, collaborating closely to develop scalable and future‑proof data platforms. In this role, you will work extensively with modern data engineering technologies such as Databricks, PySpark, Informatica (ETL), Azure Purview, Python, SQL databases, and various Azure data services. You will contribute to building robust data ingestion pipelines, performing complex data processing and transformations, and ensuring data quality and lineage across systems.

You will be involved in implementing and optimizing data workflows, supporting metadata and governance initiatives, and operationalizing data solutions in a cloud‑native environment. You will also gain hands‑on experience with Scrum and DevOps methodologies, participating in daily collaboration with skilled engineers to deliver high‑impact data products.

Your responsibilities include contributing to the development and enhancement of our enterprise data platforms, creating and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, participating in code reviews and testing, and ensuring best practices in data engineering and cloud deployment. Our team culture emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and the use of cutting‑edge technologies to deliver resilient and scalable data solutions.

Your profile

  • Basic knowledge of programming concepts and hands-on experience with Python or SQL (experience with data engineering tools is a plus).
  • Strong affinity for data, data pipelines, and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Currently an HBO/BSc or WO/MSc student in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or similar.
  • Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to think in structured, analytical ways.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to work independently while being a proactive team player.
  • Possesses an analytical and entrepreneurial mindset, eager to explore and contribute ideas.
  • Flexible and open to learning new tools and technologies such as Azure Databricks, PySpark, Informatica, and Microsoft Azure Cloud Services.
  • Available for an internship of 5–6 months.
  • Enrolled in a Dutch educational institution for the duration of the internship.

What we offer

  • A personal work laptop to support your development and daily tasks.
  • Travel allowance to make commuting easy and convenient.
  • Monthly internship compensation of €750.
  • An informal, multicultural, and highly professional work environment, where you will collaborate with experienced data engineers and cloud specialists.
  • Membership in the Young ABN AMRO Community, giving you access to social events, networking opportunities, workshops, and activities to help you integrate into the bank and connect with other young professionals and interns.
