IT Engineer Axiom Reporting

At a glance

Banks have to deal with an increasing level of reporting requirements by the regulators. Within our team, we develop and implement solutions to meet new requirements as well as to improve existing requirements. Besides the supervisors, also our internal stakeholders, who are responsible for delivering the Reports, have requirements for our reporting application called Axiom ControllerView. The internal stakeholders’ requests range from Data Quality improvements to better analysis possibilities and much more.

One of the latest Reporting requirements is to implement a solution for the new bankwide COMPASS program. Initially, the development of the software to implement COMPASS will be a large part of your scope as an IT engineer.

Compass is a new target Data and IT architecture for Finance and Risk and has been developed including a corresponding roadmap, which addresses several Business and Regulatory requirements. The program that will implement the target architecture is called Compass. The target Data and IT architecture for Finance and Risk has been developed in line with the new federated data governance of the Bank. The design ensures compliance with existing and new regulatory requirements and reconciliation of data across finance and risk through establishment of the Finance Risk domain store (single authoritative source of truth).

Your job

The Axiom DevOps team is part of a value chain containing a number of teams who collaborate closely to meet our goals of compliancy and digital excellence. You will find yourself in an informal work environment with enough time for laughter, fun and social events. Besides the team environments, there are networks such as “Young ABN AMRO” and “FRITS (Finance & Risk IT Starters). They regularly organize social and professional events such as monthly drinks, sports events, educational events and much more.

The role of an IT Engineer is diverse and covers, amongst others:

  • Development and maintenance of software in the Axiom ControllerView application.
  • Automation by using Python, REST APIs and Azure cloud.
  • Data analysis using Axiom and/or SQL.
  • Connecting with and understanding the requirements of stakeholders
  • Testing new software – technical and functional.
  • Analysing Data Quality issues and taking mitigating actions.
  • Daily communication with the DevOps team and other stakeholders in various levels and departments in the bank.

Our DevOps team consists of a Product Owner, Business Developers and IT Engineers. The combination of these different roles in one team promotes thorough collaboration between business and IT. After interpretation of the new regulation by the “Policies & Internal Control” team, it is up to the business developers in the DevOps team to translate the policy documents to functional requirements. Subsequently, the IT Engineer translates the functional requirements into software in the Axiom ControllerView application.

Next to implementing regulatory requirements, the team also has an IT application to take care of. This means that, for example, Incident Management, Release Management and Life Cycle Management are also part of the scope of work. Recently, we have done a major upgrade to a new browser-based version of our Axiom ControllerView application. Moreover, we have just finalized our migration from an on prem solution to the cloud. Axiom ControllerView is now hosted on the AWS cloud with the infrastructure being maintained by the vendor (Adenza/NASDAQ) in a cloud service which lies between SaaS and PaaS. Furthermore, we are also working towards automation using Python scripts which will be hosted on an Azure cloud platform.

Working environment

At ABN AMRO, we have a hybrid way of working, which means that you can work from the office as well as from home. In practice, most employees work 2 or 3 days from home and 2 or 3 days from the office. The Axiom DevOps team likes to come to the office 2 days a week for the efficient collaboration, good team bonding and nice atmosphere. You’ll work in a DevOps team with a diverse set of skills and cultures. This includes working together with offshore or nearshore colleagues via Teams, amongst others. The Reporting Grid is part of the “Finance & Risk” value cluster: a dynamic department with a lot of room for personal development and experimenting.
