Go deep on the technology behind cyber risk

ABN AMRO plays a vital role in society. Clients and society expect us to deliver stable and secure solutions while protecting their interests. As part of vital infrastructure, we have a responsibility to remain resilient, respond decisively to threats and keep critical services available.

As a Cyber Security Risk Specialist, you bring hands-on technical experience into an independent second-line role. You investigate how systems, controls and attack paths work in practice, ask difficult technical questions and distinguish real risk from assumptions. This role may suit a penetration tester, security engineer, red teamer or technical security consultant who wants to broaden their impact from finding vulnerabilities to influencing risk decisions across a large bank.

Your job

You will join the Cyber Security Risk team within the CRO IT & Cyber function. You perform technically grounded reviews and deep dives, challenge first-line teams on design and effectiveness and translate technical findings into clear risk implications. You will gain broader exposure to governance, regulation and enterprise risk while continuing to work on demanding technical topics.

You will:

  • Perform independent technical deep dives into security architectures, controls, vulnerabilities and attack scenarios;
  • Challenge security specialists and engineering teams on threat models, control design, implementation quality and residual risk;
  • Review penetration-test findings, security assessments, remediation plans and risk acceptances, and test whether conclusions are technically sound;
  • Assess the security of critical systems across cloud, on-premises, identity, application and infrastructure environments;
  • Connect technical weaknesses to plausible attack paths, business impact and the bank’s wider cyber risk posture;
  • Translate detailed findings into clear, evidence-based recommendations for non-technical and senior stakeholders;
  • Identify recurring technical risk themes and help improve assessment methods, control expectations and oversight practices;
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and contribute to the technical capability of the wider team.

Working environment

Part of the CRO IT & Cyber function

ABN AMRO works with the three lines of defence model. Within Risk Management, the CRO IT & Cyber function provides second-line oversight of IT risk, information security, cyber security, digital resilience and outsourcing risk. We provide independent challenge and guidance to the first line, focusing on the risks that matter most and on emerging threats.

Your profile

Must-have

  • Several years of hands-on experience in penetration testing, security engineering, red teaming, application security, cloud security or a omparable technical security role;
  • The ability to go deep into technical designs and implementations and challenge experienced specialists on substance;
  • Understanding of common attack techniques, security controls and weaknesses across modern IT environments;
  • Experience analysing technical findings, assessing exploitability and impact and prioritising remediation;
  • Curiosity, sound judgement and the confidence to ask probing questions while remaining constructive;
  • The ability to explain technical risks clearly to non-technical stakeholders;
  • Strong communication skills in Dutch and/or English.

Preferred

  • Experience with Azure, identity security, Active Directory, APIs, containers, networks or secure software development;
  • Relevant technical certifications or demonstrable practical expertise;
  • Interest in developing broader knowledge of cyber risk management, governance and regulatory expectations;
  • Experience in banking, critical infrastructure or another highly regulated environment.

We are offering

The Hay grade we will hire you in will depend on experience (10/11).

A role in a developing team with a clear strategic purpose. You will apply your technical skills to high-impact questions, broaden your perspective from individual findings to enterprise-wide risk and learn how technical evidence influences governance and investment decisions. You will work with experienced specialists across cyber security, technology, data, risk and the business.
